Spread over 267 km2, the region is full of lakes, mountains and is renowned for its vast hunting and fishing territory. This little corner of nature in all its splendor welcomes more than 300,000 tourists each year thanks to its major tourist attractions. Also, a ferry service facilitates transportation between the Ontario and Quebec shores.

Organic production is important here, with more than a third of Outaouais businesses certified. Small land areas are numerous, 60% of land units in agricultural zones having less than 10 hectares, and they are still relatively affordable compared to neighboring MRCs.
There are soils suitable for market gardening, fruit growing, field crops, pasture and fodder, as well as several wooded areas with good development potential for maple syrup production or the production and harvesting of non-timber forest products. The relief is flatter and the soils are heavier in the south, on the banks of the Ottawa River, while we find hilly landscapes and loamy and sandy soils in the center and wooded lands in the north.
With the presence of the tourist village of Montebello, Lac-Simon and its strategic location on the road to Tremblant, the MRC of Papineau has strong agritourism potential. It already has two public markets and an agritourism route on its territory.
